History of the Scientific Revolution
History of the Scientific Revolution What we call today as Modern Science and Technology is in reality not excessively present day, however was brought into the world almost a large portion of a thousand years back at the hour of Renaissance in Europe. As indicated by customary records, the logical upset started in Europe towards the finish of the Renaissance Era enduring from fifteenth century to eighteenth century. Old individuals who are viewed as the primary researchers called themselves ââ¬Å"natural philosophersâ⬠or ââ¬Å"practitioners of a gifted professionâ⬠or as ââ¬Å"followers of a strict traditionâ⬠. Both institutionally and adroitly, science was not the free practice what we see today. A lot of what we know as science initially was embraced by ministers and priests, and logical information was instructed in sanctuaries and religious communities. The logical upheaval was not set apart by any single change, however a century long procedure of disclosure in which researchers further expounded and built up the discoveries of the individuals who had come beforeââ¬from the logical learning of the old Greeks to the insightful commitments of the Islamic masterminds, to crafted by the late medieval and early Renaissance Europeans. The Medieval Islamic Science time frame kept going from seventh century to fifteenth century, during which the Muslims were the main researchers and the beneficiaries to the logical customs of Greece, India and Persia. The Islamic Science endured a progressive decrease in the mid twelfth century which gave the Europeans a chance to look for and decipher crafted by Islamic rationalists and researchers. Starting in the late eleventh century and throughout the following two centuries the Islamic world was feeling the squeeze by The Crusades and Mongol triumphs, during which libraries, observatories, clinics, and colleges were annihilated. Notwithstanding Mongolian intrusions and the campaigns, political botch and the smothering of ijtihad in the twelfth century for taqlid thinking had an influence. The annihilation of the scholarly focus of Baghdad the capital of the Abbasaid Caliphate in1258 is customarily observed as the estimated finish of the Islamic Golden Age. The interpretation of the Islamic writings into Latin during the twelfth and thirteenth hundreds of years greatly affected the European Renaissance and helped Europe hold onto the activity from the Muslims when political conditions in Islam achieved a decrease in Islamic science. Before the finish of the eighteenth century, the Scientific Revolution had brought forth Industrial Revolution which significantly changed the day by day lives of individuals around the globe. During the nineteenth century, the act of science became professionalized and systematized in manners that proceeded through the twentieth century. As per many, logical upheaval was the introduction of an a lot greater change, the Industrial Revolution which started in 1760ââ¬â¢s. The Industrial Revolution denotes a significant defining moment in history and a move to controlled, particular reason hardware, manufacturing plants and large scale manufacturing. The iron and material industry, farming, and the development of steam motor assumed focal jobs in the Industrial Revolution, which likewise observed significant changes in transportation and banking frameworks. These progressions profoundly affected the financial and social conditions in England, and afterward in this way spreading all through the world. The primary Industrial Revolution which occurred from 1760 to somewhere close to 1820 and 1840 advanced into the Second Industrial Revolution around 1850 and proceeded through the nineteenth century. Notwithstanding, the date of starting point is as yet a profoundly discussed theme among students of history. While it is h ard to clarify the entirety of the instances of how innovation has impacted culture and the other way around, checking on a couple of models from the most recent couple of hundreds of years plainly the innovation created during and after the Industrial Revolution has changed societies from straightforward cultivating towns to present day hustling urban communities and rambling rural areas. What at that point is the connection between Science, Technology and Culture? It is a mind boggling relationship that shapes a non-literal hover of impact with no genuine beginning or end focuses. Science, Technology and Culture keep on impacting each other as they develop and change after some time. From nineteenth century onwards science, innovation and culture have fundamentally affected each other. As societies change so does the innovation they create. A contemporary author Raymond Williams, in his book Culture and Society sees the idea of culture as comprising of four together pertinent implications: A general state or propensity for mind, having close relations with the possibility of human flawlessness; A general condition of scholarly improvement in a general public overall; The general assemblage of expressions; and An entire method of lifematerial, scholarly, and profound. Culture is along these lines the totality of the innovative, sociological and ideological highlights of a given society. Reasonability, utility, morals, opportunity, and sociality are the focal social components of our social orders. Since science and innovation lay on these focal social components, the appropriation of new information and new gadgets doesn't generally suggest their acknowledgment. We regularly acknowledge a development inferable from its clear utility at the individual level, and afterward reprimand it for its results at the group or social level. Science and innovation can add to the conservations and headway of a culture. Simultaneously they can likewise help cause its transformation and demolition. Science has contributed a lot to human government assistance. It has delivered inexplicable solutions for sicknesses which for quite a while, were respected hopeless. It has welcomed the wonders on industrialism, innovation and space investigation. Yet, science has mad e the same number of issues as it assisted with unraveling. It has prompted an undue weight on realism and financial savageness without controlling mental and good thoughts. The information and intensity of science should be bridled to the administration of man through the way of life the better sense and affectability of man. For example, starting in the mid 1950ââ¬â¢s, the post war a very long time in Western Germany were set apart by gigantic hindrances. Because of broad bombarding obliteration and disassembling of manufacturing plants, different social and customary flexibly arranges were demolished. Under this condition what job did culture play in the innovative advancement of Western Germany? Feeds had contended that the manner in which Western Germany moved toward innovative change bound monetary supernatural occurrence both German past and to the countryââ¬â¢s present day modern structure. The Western German methodology, as it were, has drawn upon a lot of German innovative customs that rose in the huge nineteenth and mid twentieth hundreds of years, significant attributes of which incorporate a drive for specialized greatness tempered by steady usage of new advances. There are two perspectives about culture and Germanyââ¬â¢s Technological and Economic Miracle one view progressed by researchers about culture and Germanyââ¬â¢s innovative and financial wonder is that the experience of gifted laborers and the tirelessness of financial connections were significant factors in allowing an economy to recreate itself after a fiasco. A second, and a later view is that the significant social factor that was liable for Germanyââ¬â¢s mechanical and monetary marvel was the capacity of Western German technologists and industrialists to grasp innovative other options. What at that point is the connection among culture and innovation? The way of life of a general public decides the idea of mechanical turn of events and the developing innovative culture. Innovation is therefore a social endeavor is along these lines acknowledged that innovation has had a significant impact on Western developments throughout the previous 300 years. In any case, somewhat in view of the different societies found in human social orders, the commitment of certain societies to the pool of mechanical advances has been nearly humble. Notwithstanding, innovation has consistently been too critical to possibly be estimated simply as far as the exercises of technologists. Similarly as history isn't made by students of history, yet by society, so innovation isn't grown distinctly by technologists yet the more extensive network. Each human culture has its own unmistakable culture, so the individuals from one society carry on distinctively in some noteworthy regards from individuals from each other society. Moreover, human social orders are likewise dispersed over changed locales varying uniquely in atmosphere and condition. There are likewise huge ethnic, social and social contrasts between the different human networks and their financial conditions. As of late the effect of culture on innovation in most customary social orders has would in general bear on two restricting bearings without a moment's delay. From one viewpoint western innovation is being looked for all intents and purposes unbounded then again there is resistance to specific parts of western ways of life, mentalities and worth. This wonder is named as the techno-social hole between conventional qualities and western innovation. Presently, on the off chance that we bring these issues into full thought, we are left to presume that what is requir ed right now isn't only an expansion of worldwide innovation move nor even the setting up of a screening component allowing just proper advances to be moved, but instead a significant at two levels: the residential and the global. At the household level, it is essential to fabricate a well known innovative mindfulness crossing the halfway point between the supposed indigenous and current innovation individuals ought to get mindful of the issues in culture and innovation and they can improve their occupation by adjusting and improving indigenous and present day advances. At the global level, the re-direction and rebuilding of science and innovation must address two zones: On the investigation of science and innovation

Why Book Buying Bans Are a Bad Idea
Why Book Buying Bans Are a Bad Idea This is a guest post from Tiffany Hall. Often to be found curled up on her couch in a blanket, regardless of the weather outside, Tiffany Hall is what youâd call an âindoor person.â She constantly has a novel in her purse, maybe even two, and pulls them out in the middle of class, parks, conversationsâ¦Even so, she is a genuinely friendly person who adores sharing her love of reading with her friends and family through extensive and unsolicited book talks. While reading is one of her main obsessions, Tiffany also likes to scream at Sudoku puzzles, make sarcastic remarks, and write short stories that she aspires to get published one day. Tiffany is also ever the dedicated student, always willing to look up new factoids, analyze different arguments, and learn more about the wonderful and crazy world around her. Follow her on Twitter @gjannacurls. 2017: a year that will live on in history, regardless of how you look at it. Wondrous or disastrous, 2017 has finally drawn to a close and that can only mean one thing: New Yearâs resolutions. It is no well-guarded secret that readers often cling to several goals in an attempt to assuage their guilt over the massive amount of books they have either accumulated or havenât been able to get their hands on. Typically this includes posting reading goals online, organizing the bookshelf that has been reduced to entropy, or forcing oneself to read outside of a much beloved genre. However, the most popular of these that I have found is the dreaded book-buying ban. I donât particularly care for them, I donât abide by them, and I donât recommend them. Hereâs why: FOMO New Yearâs resolutions never stick, and putting yourself on a prohibition of bookish goodies is no different. How many times have you looked online and read a blog post or an update about someone âbreakingâ the ban and caving to the pressure of printed pages? While many reasons cause a lapse in adherence, fear of missing out (FOMO) is probably one of the most significant. According to the Oxford Dictionary, FOMO is defined as âanxiety that an exciting or interesting event may currently be happening elsewhere, often aroused by posts seen on social media.â With websites and blogs constantly pumping out reviews and recommendations, itâs hard not to feel like you are falling behind somehow. While this is a ridiculous notion that unfairly shames a lot of readers, it is a real one that we all struggle with at some point. They Donât Save You Money With so many novels, poems, essays, scientific volumes, et al. being published year round, it is hard to compile a list and watch them all pass you by. So, youâll wait. But here is the crux of the issue: whether you buy them today, tomorrow, or next year, you are still spending the same money. Sure, you could theoretically forget a few books on your list, but chances are you will just wait til a later date to empty your wallet. Bans donât save your hard earned cash at all. In fact, one could argue that you will end up binge buying massive quantities of books to compensate for the time you havenât been purchasing. Whatever Makes You Happy The main reason I donât advocate for âThe Banâ is that it causes me unnecessary stress. Sure, I have an endless TBR sitting and waiting for me on my shelves, but seeing their glossy spines brings me a lot of joy. If I want a book, I buy it because thatâs a financial choice I have made for myself. Some people spend money on fancy cars or nice jewelry; I throw my dollar bills at the cash register in my local bookstore. Books, read or not, bring a light to my life that a few extra coins and pieces of paper in my wallet do not. Maybe youâve convinced yourself that you have a book-buying problem, and donât know how else to rein in your library. Bans canât be all bad if they stem even one book from making it to your shelf, right? I would disagree. Instead, I am going to propose what I like to call âMindful Book Accumulationâ or MBA for short. In fact, itâs one of my resolutions for this year! MBA It may seem that I am a huge proponent of limitless buying of books, and while that sounds immensely appealing, I am not. I just believe an outright ban is no more effective than no ban in the first place. Instead, I think that being a sensible consumer is the best approach. Buy books that make you happy because of the opportunity the prose or poetry proposesâ"not because the cover calls out to you. Purchase your tomes with a degree of questioningâ"do you really need it? And grab those titles only after youâre sure that you do. If not sure, hit up your local library! They deserve love too. Whether you put yourself on a ban, or choose to try out MBA, I wish you all the best. I hope you find books this year that inspire you and make you feel like a better youâ"we all deserve that.

All Quiet On The Western Front Tone Analysis - 722 Words
Erich Maria Remarqueââ¬â¢s novel, All Quiet on the Western Front has a central theme of the harsh realities of war and a general negative attitude toward the subject. This attitude is synonymous of other war poems such as Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen and War Is Kind by Stephen Crane; however, the attitudes are revealed differently in all three pieces through each respective authorââ¬â¢s use of diction, imagery, and tone. In the novel All Quiet on the Western Front, by Erich Maria Remarque, the author effectively utilizes these literary devices in order to highlight his negative opinion toward the subject of war. Imagery is consistently used throughout the novel as Remarque accurately depicts the cruelty of warfare and its effects on theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦A similar attitude can be found in Wilfred Owenââ¬â¢s poem Dulce et Decorum Est in which the author reveals the horrors of war through several poetic devices. Owenââ¬â¢s attitude toward war is first revealed through vivid imagery found on lines 9-16 at which point the author illustrates the scene of a soldier failing to put on his gas mask and dying in mustard gas. Within this scene the author also uses aggressive diction with words such as ââ¬Å"drowningâ⬠, ââ¬Å"gutteringâ⬠, and ââ¬Å"chokingâ⬠, all of which invoke in the reader a sense of sympathy and understanding of the horrible acts both witnessed and experie nced by soldiers. Owenââ¬â¢s also employs different purposes for each stanza in the poem, the first stanza is very literal in the description of the soldiers, with a constant meter, until it is broken by different punctuation, seemingly representing the struggle of the broken down group to keep pace. The second stanza reveals an ugly and horrific side of warfare with the appalling description of a soldier in ââ¬Å"an ecstasy of fumblingâ⬠for his gas mask but unfortunately fails to put it on in time. Owen then uses the word ââ¬Å"drowningâ⬠to describe said soldier, which is both metaphorical, as he is lost ââ¬Å"under a green seaâ⬠, but also to describe the atrocious effects of mustard gas which liquefies the lungs of its victims. She uses words such as ââ¬Ëgrossnessââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ëcurvaceousââ¬â¢ to describe womenââ¬â¢s thoughts about their bodies. It almost seems like Greer is Just talking about the pressure for women to conform. She doesnââ¬â¢t describe in a way that shows she disagrees with womenââ¬â¢s thoughts about their bodies and the pressure to counter their bodies in order to fit in to the two categories curvy or thin. She talks about how the curvy girl who ought to be thin and the thin girl who ought to be curvy. Greer is trying to get across the message that womenââ¬â¢s struggling with appearance in order to have the perfect body is a never ending cycle. You can be ââ¬Ëcurvy or thinââ¬â¢ but the pressure to change your body never fades. She mentions how ââ¬Ëa woman is tailoring herself to appeal to buyersââ¬â¢ market. Greer suggests that women are all going through this in order to catch the attention of males. She uses the terms tailoring and ââ¬Ëbuyersââ¬â¢. This idea that women are pressured to change their bodies in order to look pleasing to men. She goes on to say that this ââ¬Ëbuyerââ¬â¢ is likely to be the husband, whose accepts her for her image. She describes women as passive objects of males. I think Greer is trying show the sad reality of women; women are the ones who keep succumbing to this pressure to change their image. They are insecure and are constantly trying to change themselves. She states that womenââ¬â¢s bodies are treated as ââ¬Ëaesthetic objects without functionââ¬â¢; this causes damage to their bodies and the owners. Greer talks about this idea of the body meeting the soul and a ââ¬Ëstereotype being bornââ¬â¢. She writes about how nature exists only to make a women appear more beautiful. For example she says ââ¬Å"flowers die gladly so that her skin may uxuriate in their essenceâ⬠. I think sheââ¬â¢s trying to get across the idea that this fantasy that women have is also what is making them succumb to the pressure. This idea of a womanââ¬â¢s weakness being her beauty is also explored in the play Street car named desireââ¬â¢ by William Tennessee. He introduces the character of Blanche whoââ¬â¢s similar to the women mentioned by Greer. Blanche doesnââ¬â¢t want to accept the fact that her beauty is fading. At one point her sister Stella asks her husband to compliment her on her appearance. She mentions ââ¬Ëitââ¬â¢s her weaknesses. Miss Havisham first impression Essay Example
Miss Havisham first impression Paper One of the main characters of Charles Dickens novel Great Expectations is Miss Havisham. Throughout the course of the novel, we discover lots about her and her life, especially in the first part of chapter 8 in the story. The main thing we discover about Miss Havisham, is that 20 years ago she was unfortunately jilted at the alter, and this has greatly affected her ever since. In this essay, I am going to discuss and explain the ways in which Dickens clever shapes the readers opinion of Miss Havisham, and the views we have on her because of this. The main way I believe that Dickens shapes the readers first impression of Miss Havisham, is by writing about her description through the eyes of Pip. Pip is the main character in the novel, and we learn from earlier that he is from an extremely poor background, and as he is naive and from an age where he is easily influenced by what is around him, especially because of his dream to be a gentleman. Being from such a poor family, as Pip enters Miss Havishams house everything appears even more elegant and expensive that is really is, as he has never seen objects like this before. She appears to have absolutely no life as nothing appears to have changed in the room since that day, for example, she is still wearing her white wedding dress, which has turned to a rotten yellow due to the length of time she has been wearing it. Because of this, we get the impression she has turned crazy, as she has not changed her clothes for 20 years. We can tell from the way Pip behaves towards Miss Havisham, and her adopted daughter Estella, that Pip believes the way he and Miss Havisham get along could result in his family getting a sum of money from Miss Havisham, and this is extremely important to his sister, who is his guardian. There is proof of this in the novel when Miss Havisham asks Pip if he is afraid of her, and instead of saying yes, he replies that I am afraid of not pleasing you. However, we get the impression that later on he becomes afraid rather than nervous, as he starts to realise that there is something not quite right about her and the way she talks to him. We can tell he feels scared from the way Pip interacts with her and the way he responds to her questions, with lots of pauses, and using broken dialogue, as thought he is terrified to say the wrong thing. The way Pip describes the different objects in the room gives us an impression of what Miss Havishams life is like. The room is filled with rich and expensive objects such as dressing tables and looking glasses lit with candles. He talks about these objects as though he has never heard of or even seen anything like them before. He talks about a draped table with a gilded looking glass, giving the impression he thinks of these thing as elegant and special, and yet Miss Havisham appears to take little care of the things in the room. He describes what she is wearing as rich materials satins, lace, and silks all of white. This gives us the impression she is glamorous and clean looking, whereas we later learn her white clothes have turned yellow from not being washed in 20 years, as Pip says I learn that everything in my view ought to be white, and was white long ago. The room is filled with dirt and everything surrounding her is old and no longer elegant and rich looking as Pip first made out. We then get the impression Miss Havisham is unhealthy, unfed and unclean, from Pips description of how she looks. We understand that she is withered like her dress, this use of simile shows that she has shrunk to skin and bone, and has bright, however sunken eyes. The author then compares Miss Havisham to a ghastly waxwork, and even worse a skeleton. Dickens then goes on to describe Pips fear by stating that I should have cried out, if I could. There is a strong contrast in the novel between white and yellow, it is often mentioned that everything surrounding Miss Havisham used to be white and fresh, but is dirty and yellow. This appears to be comparing colours to Miss Havishams life, where she used to be young and youthful before she was jilted, but has now grown old and ill looking, The fact that Dickens has chosen to describe Miss Havishams surroundings prove to us how important it is to Dickens that we can understand Miss Havishams distress and depression. Dickens uses repetition throughout the novel to show the repetition in Miss Havishams life and how everything is always the same. In conclusion, I believe that seeing as marriage was so important to women in the early 1900s due to the fact they felt as though they needed a man in their lives for financial and emotional security, this is the reason Miss Havisham is like this and Pip, being young and naive did not at all understand why she had turned so crazy and into a hermit, which is the reason Dickens chose to describe Miss Havisham through Pips eyes. Altogether, I believe the way that Dickens has written the novel gives us a view on the rich (Miss Havisham) and the poor (Pip) as he sees them. Money can turn you mad, and is definitely not everything.

Funny Trick or Treat Sayings to Bring Giggles With the Chills
Funny Trick or Treat Sayings to Bring Giggles With the Chills The night of Halloween brings with it a lot of funny stories and anecdotes. The best part of the night isà sittingà together with friendsà and sharing candies, and Halloween stories. Some memories fill the house with peals of laughter, while others remind you why Halloween is theà favorite holiday for kids. Kristen Bell I have friends who wear Star Wars costumes and act like the characters all day. I may not be that deep into it, but thereââ¬â¢s something great about loving what you love and not caring if itââ¬â¢s unpopular. Bart Simpson Trick or Treat isnt just some phrase you chant mindlessly like The Lords Prayer. Its an oral contract. Rita Rudner Halloween was confusing. All my life my parents said, Never take candy from strangers. And then they dressed me up and said, Go beg for it. I didnââ¬â¢t know what to do! Iââ¬â¢d knock on peopleââ¬â¢s doors and go, Trick or treat. No thank you. Douglas Coupland Who made the rule that everybody has to dress like sheep 364 days of the year? Think of all the people youââ¬â¢d meet if they were in costume every day. People would be so much easier to talk to ââ¬â like talking to dogs. Dave Barry I preferred to trick-or-treat as a vampire, which I felt was much scarier. The problem was the plastic vampire teeth. I have a powerful gag reflex, so when people opened their doors, instead of being terrified by the awesome bone-chilling specter of the Prince of Darkness, theyd see this short,à capedà person, retching. Their only terror was that I might throw up on their shoes.à Poorly aligned eye holes are an ancient Halloween, tradition dating back to at least my childhood. My early Halloween memories consist of staggering around disguised as a ghost, unable to see anything but bed sheet, and consequently bonking into trees or falling into brooks. The highlight of my ghost career came in the 1954 Halloween parade when I marched directly into the butt of a horse. So when I open the door on Halloween, I am confronted by three or four imaginary heroes, such as G.I. Joe, Conan the Barbarian and Oliver North, who would lookà very terrifyingà except that they are three feet tall and facing in random directions. They stand there silently for several seconds before an adult voice hisses from the darkness behind them: Say ââ¬ËTrick or treat!ââ¬â¢ Conan Oââ¬â¢Brien This Halloween the most popular mask is the Arnold Schwarzenegger mask. And the best part? With a mouth full of candy you will sound just like him. Robert Brault I donââ¬â¢t know that there are real ghosts and goblins, But there are always more trick-or-treaters than neighborhood kids. Anonymous The older you get, the harder it is to find someone willing to share a horse costume with you. Emily Luchetti After eating chocolate you feel godlike, as though you can conquer enemies, lead armies, entice lovers. Winifred Sanderson from Hocus Pocus You know, Iââ¬â¢ve always wanted a child. And now I think Iââ¬â¢ll have one... on toast! R. L. Stine When I was a kid my family was really poor and I remember one Halloween I wanted to dress up really scary and my parents came home with a duck costume. I wore that costume for years! I hated it. Jean Baudrillard There is nothing funny about Halloween. This sarcastic festival reflects, rather, an infernal demand for revenge by children on the adult world. Charlie Brown I got a rock. Michael Trevino I only eat candy on Halloween. No lie. Gavin DeGraw When I was a kid I got busted for throwing a rock through a car window and egging a house on Halloween. Derrick Rose On Halloween, dont you know back when you were little, your mom tells you dont eat any candy until she checks it? I used to be so tempted to eat my candy on the way to other peoples houses. That used to be such a tease. Jimmy Fallons Pros and Cons of Trick or Treating, The Tonight Show Pro: You get to go door to door, pretending something youre not. Con: Like Republicans on the campaign trail.Pro: As an alternative to candy, you can offer trick-or-treaters a heart-healthy apple. Con: When you close your door, they will offer your house some heart-healthy eggs.Pro: You bought tons of candy just in case you get lots of trick-or-treaters this year. Con: Riiiiight!!!Pro: Everyone loves your quirky and unique costume: Fat Iron Man. Con: You meant to go as Iron Man.Pro: Getting to say, Trick or Treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat. If you dont, I dont care, Ill pull down your underwear. Con: Getting the response, Sounds good to me.Pro: With a Halloween costume, you can pretend to be someone you could never be in real life. Con: Rick Perry is going as President Rick Perry.Pro: Halloween is not just about the candy you get; its about knowing your neighbors and enjoying the festivities of the season. Con: Raisins?!?!? Aww, hell, no!

Organizational Culture Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 5
Organizational Culture - Essay Example Closely related to organizational culture in meaning is organizational values. Values refer to acceptable standards that govern individual employeesââ¬â¢ behavior in an organization. Without these values, each employee would adopt behaviors that they deem fit in their own analysis which could conflict with the behaviors that an organization seeks to promote. The organizational values have to be in line with the mission and the vision. Woodside (2010) gives examples of the distinctive values in blue chip companies like Ford Motors and Marks & Spencers which were established by their founders and further sedimentation accomplished by their inheritors. Values would be chosen through the process of measuring, diagnosis, deciding and finally embedding. It has been noted that organizational culture guides the success of an organization, hence an important aspect to both the profit making and the non-profit making organizations. But success or performance remains a relative concept among business research scholars. Woodside (2010) gathers definitions of performance from various scholars ranging from an organizationââ¬â¢s ability to achieve its goals to an organizational measure of efficiency, effectiveness and economy. In the same way, there exist various variables in measuring organization performance. This complexity has been cited by Shahzad, Luqman, Khan & Shabbir (2012) as the reason for minimal research on the impact of organizational culture on performance. In this paper, performance would be considered as the attainability of an organizationââ¬â¢s goals. A positive correlation has been established between organizational culture and organizational performance with well performing firms possessing certain strong cultural traits. Shahzad, Luqman, Khan and Shabbir (2012) noted that superior and perfectly imitable organizational culture ensures attainment of sustainable competitive advantage.

Pasternak Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Pasternak - Essay Example In the writings of these two poets readers can see true reflection of the ââ¬Å"shifting biographical, cultural, historical, and sociopolitical circumstancesâ⬠(Hasty, 591) within which they developed their relationship. Ciepiela based his book on numerous authentic materials that have given the picture of how the two poets immensely influenced each otherââ¬â¢s creativity along with the complexities in their relationship. Ciepiela has explored the way gender has been illustrated by the poets in their writing which provides a new perspective in the manner that the poets can be understood like their traditions and cultural backgrounds. One work of Boris Pasternak that was published in the year 1929 was The Tale. This prose is considered as one of the most complex short proses of Pasternak and hence has not been much studied by scholarly articles. While in the views of the scholar A. Livingstone the work is considered as ââ¬Å"unfinished, untidy and confusingâ⬠, in the views of M. Aucouturier it is one of the most cleverly written works of Pasternak. However, the complicated structure of the prose is emphasized when it is studies in the backdrop of its literature and history. It was initially conceived under the title Revolution and the story was set in the period between pre-war summer of 1914 and before the beginning of 1917. The Tale is written in the style of ââ¬Å"triple-frame narrativeâ⬠in which there are two inner tales that act as counterpoint to the outer story. In the innermost tale, the story revolves around a young man who sacrifices all comforts of life as protest against all injustices in the world. Such careless sacrificial gesture of the protagonist ââ¬Å"anticipates the compromised idealism of the coming eraâ⬠(Swift, 114). In this way Pasternak has made the novel a reflection of the Russian revolution. One of the most popular works of Boris Pasternak outside Russia is Doctor Zhivago which was published in the

The Downfall of Tess in Thomas Hardys Tess of the DUrbervilles Essay
The Downfall of Tess in Thomas Hardy's Tess of the D'Urbervilles Tess of the D'Urbervilles is considered to be a tragedy due to the catastrophic downfall of the protaganist Tess. From the early days in her life, her father John had begun to destroy her, which then led to Alex D'Urbervill and eventually finished with Angel Clare. Each dominant male figure in her life cocntributed to her tragic downfall which the reader encounters at the end of the novel. It is unfortunate how one woman can be ruined by the three most important and dominant people in her life. Tess's downfall began with her experiences with her father. She grew up with a father who drank excessively and did not give her any type of guidance or support. His characteristics are revealed when he sends Tess to Tantridge to dliver the beehives, due to the fact that he is too drunk to do it himself. Rather than taking responsibility for the dreadful accident Tess had with the family's horse, he sends her to the D'Urbervilles mansion to seek their name and fortune. Following this, when Tess delivers her baby upon returning from Tantridge, the reader once again sees John's true sides of how horrible he is and how he destroys his daughter, by not letting the parson come and baptize her child, Sorrow, yet he is on the verge of dying. Her son's name reflects just how miserable she is and how much pain she is going through, because of Alec. Throughout these incidents the reader can see just how Tess is selfless andl oyal to her family and is focused on helping them, so she goes and seeks help from her family members. The outcome of this is unfortunately useable, her downfall. Tess's journey to Tantridge and her introduction to Alex is the be... ...one she could trust and rely on, but this had not occurred. Even though it was not intentional, Angel himself had driven Tess into Alec's arms, when he had left her. She was forced to go back to him, because of poverty and because of her family. When Tess found out Angel had returned from Brazil, she found the the only way out of her recently started relationship with Alec was by murdering him. It is distressing how all three dominant male figures in her life had chosen to hurt her so immensely. Unfortunetly Tess is very influence by people, whihc leads her to face many horrible incidents throughout her life. She is selfless, loyal and weak which makes it easy for her father John, Alec and Angel to hurt her and cause her pain, which eventually caused her downfall. Therefore it is correct; the catastrophic downfall of Tess is due to the men in her life.

An Analysis of Womenââ¬â¢s Mindset About Plastic Surgery Essay
Based on Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia stated that beauty is a value that related to emotional aspect that mean vitality, fertility, health, happiness, goodness, and love. ââ¬Å"Beauty is commonly defined as a characteristic present in objects, such as nature, art work, and a human person, that provides a perceptual experience of pleasure, joy, and satisfaction to the observer, through sensory manifestations such as shape, color, and personality. Beauty thus manifested usually conveys some level ofharmony amongst components of an objectâ⬠(New World Encyclopedia). Thomas Aquinas (1225 ââ¬â 1274), wrote on the essence of beauty. He thought that beauty was the result of three prerequisites: wholeness (lat. integritas) or perfection, harmony (lat. proportio) and clarity or brightnessâ⬠(Pentti Rautio, 2007). For many centuries, people and philosophers have expressed their definition of beauty. They show their own argument with different definition. However, nowadays we can not get the really means of beauty, because beauty has been lost over time. It just leaves a word ( Nancy Etcoff, 1999, p. 69). Everyone want to be beautiful, especially for women. They make themselves as beautiful as they can. For being beautiful, they have an icon to be followed. They use a Barbie dolls as a fashion icon because they think that Barbie is the image of beauty woman. Barbie has thin and tall body, flawless skin, long hair and big eyes. It shows that Barbie is perfect creature. Because of it, Barbie has affected a lot of women through its beauty. Barbie become the image of beauty by its history. Barbie is named by Ruth Handler which comes from his daughterââ¬â¢s name Barbara. Barbara is the same as another child that play with a toys but she always use a paper to make a dolls. During a trip to Europe with her child Barbara in 1956, Ruth Handler came across a German and found a doll called Bild Lilli. The Bild Lilli doll was very popular at that time, it was made based on a character in a comic strip drawn by Reinhard Beuthin for the newspaper Die Bild-Zeitung. In 1955, The Bild Lilli doll was initially sold to adults and became popular with children who enjoyed dressing up. On her return to the United States, Ruth Handler tried to redesign the Bird Lilly doll with help from Jack Ryan that works as an engineer. Moreover, the doll that was redesign by Ruth handler was given a new name ââ¬ËBarbieââ¬â¢, after Ruth Handlerââ¬â¢s daughter Barbara. The Barbie doll made its first debut at the American International Toy Fair in New York on March 9, 1959. This date is also used as Barbieââ¬â¢s birthday. The Bird Lilli doll production was stopped in 1964 and the first Barbie doll wore a black and white zebra striped swimsuit and signature topknot ponytail. The doll was marketed as a ââ¬Å"Ten-age Fashion Modelâ⬠with her clothes created by Charlotte Johnson. The first Barbie dolls were manufactured in Japan, with their clothes hand-stitched by Japanese home workers. Around 350,000 Barbie dolls were sold during the first year of production. Barbie was the first toy that has a marketing strategy on television advertising. It is estimated that over a billion Barbie dolls have been sold out in over 150 countries and every second three Barbie dolls are sold. Barbie products include not only the range of dolls with their clothes and accessories, but also a large range of Barbie branded goods such as books, apparel, cosmetics and video games. Barbie has appeared in a series of animated films and is a supporting character in ââ¬Å"Toy Story 2â⬠and ââ¬Å"Toy Story 3â⬠. Barbie has been given honors and become cultural icon that is rare in the toy world. In 1974 a section of Times Square in New York City was renamed Barbie Boulevard for a week. In 2009, Barbie celebrated her 50th birthday. The celebrations included a runway show in New York for the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and others event that used Barbie as the icon (James Penn, 2001). Barbie became a popular toy in America and the figure that was used by Mattel dolls and accessories. For five years, Barbie has been an important part of toy fashion doll market. However, behind its popularity, Barbie also became controversies because its life style. From a young age, children play with toys like Barbie dolls and burly action figures, with bodies that are physically impossible to achieve. Exposure to these ââ¬Å"idealsâ⬠is damaging to the self-esteem of youthsâ⬠(MelodyBee, 2008). Usually, most of children play Barbie, especially for girls. They make Barbie as beautiful as they can. However, playing a Barbie doll can give bad influence for children. The Barbieââ¬â¢s clothes or the other things in Barbieââ¬â¢s world have affected the girls who playing Barbie think how importance of physical appearance. Barbie has affected them in terms of fashion. They be dressed precocious because the influence of Barbie. Without realizing it, they are growing-up skipper. According to Marilyn Ferris Motz, he suggested, ââ¬Å"Barbie has other messages for us and that the dollââ¬â¢s influence is more problematic, especially for children. â⬠It means that Barbie has bad side effect for children. Not only children, but nowadays the girls or women also make Barbie as woman figure that they want. Because of the figure of Barbie and other figures of beauties, women are convinced to believe that one must look like these images to be beautiful. The easiest way to achieve this is by having plastic surgery. Plastic surgery is a type of surgery that can involve both womenââ¬â¢s appearance and ability to function. Society today has influence women to believe that in order for a person to look beautiful, they must look like the images that are seen on television, in movies, and on the cover of magazines. Some of them are even willing to suffer in order to achieve their desired beauty. Although plastic surgery can improve womenââ¬â¢s appearance, but it can induce a lot of detriments which may lead to dangerous risk, even death. From the description, I will analyze womenââ¬â¢s mindset about plastic surgery.

Pros and Cons of Legalising Marijuana - 1126 Words
Cannabis is becoming increasingly widespread and increasingly common in modern-day society for both recreational use and for medication. The article by Craig Reinarman, ââ¬ËCriminalisation, legalisation and the mixed blessing of medicalisation in the USAââ¬â¢ generates many controversial issues of cannabis. The two-sided debate between embracing medical use of the drug through the therapeutic benefits and the link between cannabis and psychosis is explored. This issues also stems the question of the legitimacy of legalisation and criminalisation of cannabis and how key concepts are raised including ââ¬Ëmoral entrepreneurââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ësocial locusââ¬â¢. In todayââ¬â¢s society as cannabis is becoming increasingly ââ¬Ënormalisedââ¬â¢, the theory that cannabis is a ââ¬Ëgateway drugââ¬â¢ also arises. Despite the current marijuana laws, medical research has shown a variety of therapeutic benefits that arise from the use of cannabis. (Gowling et al. 1998, p. 446)) Revealed that ââ¬ËOver the years, cannabis has been claimed to increase appetite, relax the muscle, improve mood, relieve anxiety and combat pain and nauseaââ¬â¢. As a result of these advantages, medical marijuana advocates support and has pushed for the legalisation of cannabis. However, it is argued that harmful effects can arise, demonstrating an association between cannabis with psychosis. Psychosis is a condition of the mind, involving a ââ¬Å"loss of contact with realityâ⬠. Hall (1998) stipulated that ââ¬ËA high doses of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the
